Schramsberg Vineyards
December
Perched on St. Helena’s Diamond Mountain sits Schramsberg Vineyards, a Napa Valley icon with a story as sparkling as its wines.
In 1965, Jack and Jamie Davies stumbled upon the property while starting to look for a new place to begin their new, simpler life. Though long-abandoned, the 19th-century Victorian drew them in with its romantic character, overgrown gardens, and underground caves carved into the hillside.
Their visions of simplicity were replaced with a new venture. The couple set out to revive what had once been the home and winery of German immigrant Jacob Schram, who first established the estate in the 1800s. Their vision? To craft a world-class sparkling wine that would elevate American winemaking to international prestige and mark life’s most memorable moments.
That dream quickly turned into a legacy. Schramberg’s 1965 Blanc de Blancs was the first American sparkling wine made entirely from Chardonnay. It went on to earn a place in history when President Nixon used it for his 1972 Toast to Peace, and since then it has been poured at official State functions by every U.S. administration. Today, the estate continues to handcraft some of California’s most refined and expressive sparkling wines, from bright and vintage-dated Blanc de Blancs and Rosés, to rich Cabernet Sauvignons and Pinot Noirs.
Every glass of Schramsberg wine celebrates the beauty of craftsmanship, history, and a little sparkle. Book your tasting for The Cellar Door featuring Schramsberg Vineyards today.
